The
Yorkshire Post Jazz Band was formed in October 1985 by six local musicians
and although sponsored by Yorkshire Post Newspapers there have never
been any Yorkshire Post personnel in the band.
The
band has played jazz festivals throughout the British Isles including
Edinburgh, The Isle of Man, Hexham, Marsden, Minehead, The Grand Hotel,
Scarborough and Warners Alvaston Hall and Nidd Hall Hotels. For the
past ten years they have appeared at the Breda Jazz Festival in Holland
and in May 1996 and 1998 the trip to Holland included both the Enkhuizen
and Breda festivals. Several of the band's fans have travelled with
them to these festivals.
The
Yorkshire Post Jazz Band play regular engagements at jazz clubs in
the Midlands and in the north of England and carry out promotional
work for Yorkshire Post Newspapers such as Leeds Show, Leeds CAMRA
Beer Festival, Harrogate Flower Show, Bramhain Horse Trials and the
Yorkshire International Business Conference at Harewood House. They
are also the regular pre-concert attraction at the Sunday night jazz
shows at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds. In addition, the Band
play many private engagements - weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries
etc. and have played for the last five years at Ilkley Carnival.
The
Yorkshire Post Jazz band are now a popular and well-established part
of the traditional jazz scene both locally and throughout the country
and hope to remain so for many years to come.
