GIDEA PARK first stormed the charts in the early
eighties with the top twenty hit "BEACHBOY GOLD". This
BEACHBOY compilation was quickly followed by a FOUR SEASONS compilation
"SEASONS OF GOLD" which also charted. Then there followed
further success with another collection of BEACH BOY favourites
under the title of "CALIFORNIA GOLD".
European chart success also followed, and it soon became apparent
that there was still an immense demand for the songs of the BEACH
BOYS and the FOUR SEASONS, not only in Britain, but all around
the world. So with three hits under their belt, GIDEA PARK travelled
the British Isles and Europe promoting their records on television
and radio. This led to the obvious decision to make GIDEA PARK
into a touring band.
Under the expert guidance of Adrian Baker, then and today a leading
member of the real BEACH BOYS, the band set about preparing a
show, which could be performed totally "live", without
resorting to the use of sequencers or backing tapes, so as to
produce an accurate tribute to America's biggest sixties idols.
This involved six months of gruelling rehearsals and planning
before the band felt ready to take their show on the road.
With Adrian's younger brother Ian Baker on lead vocals and keyboards,
Roger Nicholas on vocals and lead guitar, Alec Duncan on vocals
and drums, Roger Whatling on vocals and bass guitar, the band
have been performing their "GOOD VIBRATIONS BEACH PARTY"
for more than seventeen years. Apart from the British Isles, audiences
throughout Europe and as far as the Canaries, the Middle East,
the Far East and even Moscow, have thrilled to the sights and
sounds of GIDEA PARK in their now traditional Hawaiian shirts
and shorts. Many large companies have used the talents of GIDEA
PARK to entertain at their conferences throughout the world.
To compliment the surfing sounds of the BEACH BOYS, the band carry
their own Hawaiian theme stage set and hold a "Surf Contest"
on stage, during which young ladies are adorned with grass skirts
and garlands, and are invited to demonstrate their prowess and
skills, whilst trying to stay upright on a pair of very peculiar
custom-made surfboards, often resulting in hysterical consequences.
