Tribute Bands: Mersey Beat Legends

A brilliant live tribute to the sixties Mersey sound. This first class tribute band, has its roots in the 60's when guitarist Yanni, performed with his band "The Seftons" many times at the world famous Cavern Club in Liverpool. "The Seftons" were later signed by Apple (The Beatles record company) and released many records over the following years. Yanni is proud of "The Seftons" claim to fame by having a brick placed in the famous Mathew Street Wall of Fame.

Each member of the band brings a wealth of experience that re-creates a professional and authentic sound, which is produced with the inclusion of 12-string guitar, brilliant harmonies, and the look with clothes evocative of the era.

The band has gone from strength to strength, performing at many Butlins 60's festivals and supporting many named artists such as "The Searchers", "Gerry and the Pacemakers", "The Swinging Blue jeans" and many more.

The Merseybeat Legends are a professional and versatile, four piece live band, performing an outstanding tribute to the 60's Mersey Sound
.

Yanni (Electric Guitar / Acoustic Guitar / Vocal)

Born and bred in Liverpool, Yanni really loves the Merseybeat sound. He first played at the Cavern Club in 1964 with his band The Seftons. The band were snapped up by Apple (The Beatles own record label) and went on to record many singles. Returning to Liverpool in 2001 to play The Cavern again, he found that The Seftons have their own brick in the wall outside. Yanni himself has appeared on many TV shows, and in 1970 had success when he wrote and recorded the theme to Candid Camera. So, with more than 30 years experience, he brings a true authenticity to The Mersey Beat Legends.

Paul (Electric Guitar / Electric 12-String Guitar / Vocal)

We all enjoy playing and listening to 60's music, but Paul is the biggest fan. He's played in several sixties beat bands over the years, and appeared at many famous venues, including The Manchester Apollo, Marquee Club, Hammersmith Odeon and the Cavern Club. During the 70's, Paul performed at a number of festivals across Europe, including the Reading Rock Festival. Paul has also written and recorded several songs, achieving European chart success. He has appeared with Denny Laine (Moody Blues/Wings) Peter Twiggy Wood (Pink Floyd) and Snowy White. More recently Paul has performed with several 60's tribute bands playing mainly corporate functions and UK holiday centres.

John (Drums / Vocal)

John began his career with 60's band Fleur de Lys and The Mojos, subsequently touring with Sunset, a hardworking pop harmony band. Although John moved later into both rock and punk, and more recently rhythm and blues, he still thinks of 60's music as his roots. John has always been a big fan of harmony vocals, and with a great vocal range himself, he enjoys singing the high harmonies in The Mersey Beat Legends.

John (Bass Guitar / Vocal)

John is another huge fan of 60's material and harmony vocals. He started his musical career in function bands in the late sixties, working at prestigious London venues including the Dorchester Hotel, The Hilton and The Savoy. John has written and recorded a number of songs which were picked up by local and national radio. This led to commissions to write radio jingles for, among others, Chris Tarrant, Steve Penk and Bruno Brookes. He met Yanni at the Candid Camera recording sessions, and has hardly had a free weekend since. He has also appeared on recordings with, among others, Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt (Status Quo) Jools Holland, Sting, Phil Collins and Spandau Ballet.
